Meet the team


Lucy Readshaw - General Manager

Following 12 successful years within the banking industry and 5 years as Manager of our Darlington Health Club, Lucy was elated at the opportunity to become General Manager our Darlington Hotel commencing October 2012.  The change of environment suited Lucy well, as she brought a new energy and endless enthusiasm to the role.

Lucy oversees the running of the entire hotel, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for residents, diners and function guests. Her passion for positive customer experiences means that improvements have been made in all areas, including the installation of a garden pavilion, allowing outdoor weddings to take place in the Hotel’s grounds.

Being an excellent support to her large team within the hotel, means that all staff members, from Reception to Maxine’s Restaurant, are inspired by Lucy’s positivity and commitment to ensuring that your wedding will be simply perfect.

Jade MacGillivray - Events & Deputy General Manager

Jade joined the team in 2002 as a waitress, progressing to Wedding Coordinator in 2007 following the completion of her studies. During her years serving functions and hotel residents, she gained invaluable knowledge to advise future couples on how their wedding will run from start to finish, with an in-depth insight into all possibilities and practicalities involved.

Jade is the main contact for every wedding and will be with you throughout the planning process. Her bright and friendly personality, along with a diligent attitude towards the finer details of every event, immediately puts customers at ease and helps them enjoy every aspect of organising their special day.  

Her strong belief that every query, no matter how small, should be answered swiftly and thoroughly and communicated to all relevant departments within the hotel has ensured that the hotel has gained a fantastic reputation for successful, bespoke weddings.

Andrea Wake – Breakfast Manager

With over 25 years in the hospitality industry, Andrea has a wealth of experience gained from Management and Toastmaster roles in many North East hotels. She joined the Bannatyne Hotel team in 2008 as Breakfast Manager and Toastmaster, where she leads an efficient and dynamic team who always follow her example of striving to deliver the most professional and friendly customer service possible.

Andrea is a true perfectionist, and her fastidious attention to detail mean that restaurant and function service is always run with precision and care, while her thoughtful nature means that every guest she encounters is made to feel cared for and completely at ease throughout their stay.

Alex Farnish - Restaurant Manager 

Alex began her hospitality career in 2002, working in both an operational and co-ordinating role for Food & Beverage and Conference & Banqueting. She then spent 4 years living and teaching in South Korea, providing a fantastic opportunity to gain knowledge of other cultures.

Alex returned to Darlington in 2011 and enjoyed a welcome return to hospitality, and joined Bannatyne Hotel, Darlington as Restaurant Supervisor in 2014. Since then, she has progressed to Restaurant Manager & Toastmaster and has achieved great success in impressing guests and colleagues alike. Alex adopts a "can do" attitude and works tirelessly to ensure each visitor to the Hotel is attended to with care, making her a wonderful role model for the rest of the team.

Lorraine Ditchburn - Head Housekeeper

A long history of over 10 years with Bannatyne Hotel Darlington has given Lorraine an eye for detail that is almost impossible to come by nowadays. Lorraine takes huge pride in the cleanliness and presentation of the Hotel’s 60 bedrooms and public areas, and her longstanding team share her belief that no corners must ever be cut.

Lorraine particularly enjoys welcoming wedding parties and family groups to the rooms, and guests thoroughly enjoy her hospitality throughout their stay.  Remembering special added touches such as extra bedding or ensuring a garden view for regulars who have previously made comments or requests, have ensured that many guests look forward to returning to the Hotel on a frequent basis.

Kathryn Moon - Reception Manager

Having worked in the hospitality industry for many years, Kathryn joined the team at Bannatyne Hotel in Darlington in October 2017. Kathryn has a strong sense of responsibility and a passion for exceeding guests' expectations throughout their planning process and during their stay or event. Kathryn wanted to be part of a committed team with similar values and customer service drive to deliver best practice, and felt that ours was the perfect team to achieve this with.
