At Bannatyne we offer a full range of structured and quality swimming lessons from Parent and Child classes from 4 months to 3 years of age and from the age of three children can start in our Stage 1 (Beginner) classes. Our lessons go through all the stages up to Stage 9 Coaching following the ASA Learn to Swim framework. Lessons run for 50 weeks of the year.
Safe and fun lessons are our priority, which is why each child is continually assessed throughout their swimming journey as it is very important that children are set goals and receive awards for their hard work and progression within the swim school.
Free Swimming Lesson Trial
Simply phone to book in for a free trial. If you wish to book in for lessons, we would strongly recommend you sign up after the trial lesson. We can not guarantee any spaces until the paperwork is completed and the child is enrolled on to lessons.
Enrolling into Swimming Lessons
Complete an enrolment form at reception and we can start you the next week. There is no joining fee and you do not need to be a member of Bannatyne Health Club. Children are continually assessed and moved up therefore you can join at any time of the year.
No need to re-enrol your child as we run a continuous swimming programme and payment is taken by monthly direct debit.
Stage 1 (Beginner) classes have a maximum of 5 children in each class and the teacher is in the water with the children. In our other sessions we have a maximum of 8 children in a class, smaller classes enables us to give the children more direct time.
We have limited space on poolside, however, we know how important it is to watch your child’s progression, therefore we organise watching week to take place once every three weeks. Please check the Swimming Lesson Notice board for further information. Shoe covers must be worn at all times on poolside. No photography is permitted during lessons. Please use the chairs provided.
Continuous Assessments, Badges and Certificates
It is very important to us that children get recognised for their progression through the Learn to Swim framework. Each child is assessed individually and moved up as soon as they have completed the relevant outcomes. As a level 2 teacher we do also assess children on stroke technique and stamina. A child will receive a Stage badge each time they move up to the next stage and we also hold distance weeks twice a year to enable them to get a distance award.
Your child will receive a progress report which outlines what they have achieved and what is left to work on in their relevant stage. These will be completed twice a year in June and December by the teacher.
Swimmer of the Month
We feel it is very important to acknowledge swimmers that have worked really hard therefore we choose a swimmer of the month each month and present them with a certificate to encourage and motivate our swimmers.
Parent and Child Classes
We run parent and child classes on a Saturday morning. These classes are available from the age of 4 months to 3 years of age.
Group Adult Lessons
Subject to demand we offer Group Adult Lessons from Beginners through to Stroke improvement, or training for a triathlon we can cater for your individual needs.

Of course we have some people who only wish to do one session initially to see if our way will suit them.
