From winner to fresh focus: Stuart Johnson’s Choose 2 Lose journey

When Bannatyne launched its Choose 2 Lose programme in 2023, Cardiff member Stuart Johnson grabbed the opportunity with both hands, and was named that session’s winner. Now, at 61 and with a powerful new motivation, Stuart is back on the six-week challenge, proving that progress is about momentum, not perfection.

Based in Cyncoed, Cardiff, Stuart had already been a Bannatyne member since 2022 when he signed up to the original programme. “I realised I needed something to keep me motivated,” he says. “Choose 2 Lose gave me a goal, accountability, and a real sense of camaraderie.”

Over the six weeks, Stuart lost around six kilos, but for him the biggest shift was education. “I became far more conscious about food, when to eat, what to eat, and what just wasn’t doing anything for me,” he explains. “The support around nutrition, recipes, and tracking really opened my eyes.”

After completing the programme, Stuart maintained his routine until a serious health setback, from which he has since recovered and is ready for a new chapter.

This time, Stuart’s goal is personal, preparing for his daughter Elizabeth’s wedding in April. “It would be great to lose five or six kilos again,” he says. “But just as important is feeling fit, confident, and part of something.”

He adds, “The team here are fantastic. The encouragement, the routines, the community, it makes the gym feel welcoming. Choose 2 Lose helps you meet people, support each other, and keep pushing forward together.”

For Stuart, Choose 2 Lose isn’t just a challenge, it’s a reminder that it’s never too late to reset, refocus, and choose yourself.
