Padel Rules

Padel is a fun and exciting sport that’s easy to learn! Whether you’re a beginner or a regular player, here are the key rules you need to know.

1. The Court & Equipment

  • The Court: Padel is played on an enclosed 10m x 20m court with glass walls and fencing.

  • The Racket: Solid, stringless, and perforated – designed for powerful shots and control.

  • The Ball: Similar to a tennis ball but slightly softer for better rallies.

2. How to Score

  • Uses the same scoring system as tennis (15, 30, 40, game).

  • Win a set by reaching 6 games with a 2-game lead.

  • At 6-6, a tiebreak (first to 7 points, win by 2) decides the set.

  • Matches are usually best of 3 sets.

3. Serving Rules

  • Underarm serve only! The ball must be hit below waist height.

  • Serve diagonally into your opponent’s service box.

  • Two serves allowed per point, just like in tennis.

  • If the ball clips the net but lands correctly, it's a let and must be replayed.

4. How to Play a Rally

  • The ball must bounce before hitting the walls (you can’t hit it straight onto them).

  • You can use the walls to return the ball – like in squash!

  • You can volley (hit before the ball bounces) – except when returning a serve.

  • The ball can only bounce once before being returned.

5. When is the Ball Out?

  • It bounces twice before you return it.

  • It hits the net and doesn’t go over.

  • It lands outside the court or hits the fence before bouncing.

6. Doubles Play

  • Padel is mostly played in doubles (2 vs 2).

  • Work with your partner to keep the rally going and outplay your opponents!
