Padel is a fun and exciting sport that’s easy to learn! Whether you’re a beginner or a regular player, here are the key rules you need to know.
The Court: Padel is played on an enclosed 10m x 20m court with glass walls and fencing.
The Racket: Solid, stringless, and perforated – designed for powerful shots and control.
The Ball: Similar to a tennis ball but slightly softer for better rallies.
Uses the same scoring system as tennis (15, 30, 40, game).
Win a set by reaching 6 games with a 2-game lead.
At 6-6, a tiebreak (first to 7 points, win by 2) decides the set.
Matches are usually best of 3 sets.
Underarm serve only! The ball must be hit below waist height.
Serve diagonally into your opponent’s service box.
Two serves allowed per point, just like in tennis.
If the ball clips the net but lands correctly, it's a let and must be replayed.
The ball must bounce before hitting the walls (you can’t hit it straight onto them).
You can use the walls to return the ball – like in squash!
You can volley (hit before the ball bounces) – except when returning a serve.
The ball can only bounce once before being returned.
It bounces twice before you return it.
It hits the net and doesn’t go over.
It lands outside the court or hits the fence before bouncing.
Padel is mostly played in doubles (2 vs 2).
Work with your partner to keep the rally going and outplay your opponents!
