​Peterborough member brings back Gold from World Championships

Phillip Sutton, (27) a member of Market Deeping Tang Soo Do, has returned from the World Championships in the USA with a haul of two gold and one silver medals.

Phil, who has been training in the Korean martial art of Tang Soo Do for 20 years, represented Team GB in North Carolina as part of a 55 strong team.

He competed in three categories, winning Gold in Weapons (a performance with a weapon based on rank) and Sparring and Silver in Hyungs (an open hand performance. Phil currently holds the rank of 3 rd degree black belt and came away from the Championships as the overall Male Black-belt Grand Champion Cup. Katie Alexander completed the clean sweep for Team GB taking the Female Black-belt Grand Champion Cup.

Phil trains twice a week in Market Deeping, supplementing this specialist work with his fitness regime at the Bannatyne Health Club in Peterborough.

Phil said: “It was an incredibly successful World Championships for Team GB and I am proud to have played my part in that.

“This was my fourth World Championships and Market Deeping has seven competitors, all who came back with medals.

“I spend a lot of time at the Bannatyne health Club in Peterborough, working on my overall fitness and the club is very supportive and well equipped. I enjoy my time there and am looking forward to the next competition and hopefully winning more medals.”
